Last week, on October 30, Egnosis participated in the Drug Repurposing Cluster meeting in Brussels hosted by the European Health and Digital Executive Agency (HaDEA). This gathering served as a valuable touchpoint for Horizon Europe-funded projects REPO4EU and REMEDi4ALL, providing opportunities to showcase recent advancements and foster collaboration.
EU project officer Monica Ensini commenced the tight agenda. In her warm, welcoming address, she outlined the significance and priority of the two named projects, as the expectations placed upon them are extremely high.
Further, the coordinators—Harald H.H.W. Schmidt from REPO4EU, Anton Ussi and Donald Lo from REMEDi4ALL—presented the projects’ results so far and future perspectives. The wide range of global inquiries, successful case studies, and drug repurposing network services confirm the initiative’s viability, which significantly reduces the classic stages of drug discovery and their associated high costs.
As key technology providers in REPO4EU, our Egnosis team, represented by Béla Bihari and Balázs Orbán, introduced the implementation plan for the drug repurposing platform development. They also shared ideas on how AI, Machine Learning, Big Data, and LLMs can enhance the platform’s long-term technical sustainability while also drawing attention to the requirements of the AI Act on regulatory requirements. In their view, leveraging AI- and data-driven approaches for drug repurposing and identifying opportunities arising from these data correlations offers significant yet largely unexplored possibilities for advancing mechanism-based systems medicine. We were truly grateful for the opportunity to showcase our IT expertise and inspire project stakeholders with technology-driven insights.
Alongside sharing the latest updates, the meeting was a fantastic opportunity to discover synergies between the two projects and foster a vibrant repurposing community across the EU and beyond. The joint vision is to enhance the repurposing of medicines, improve patient outcomes, and address unmet medical needs.
We are grateful to all our project partners with whom we shared this unique yet exceptional venue. This gathering marked a significant milestone in developing a cohesive and impactful healthcare ecosystem. Let’s keep our progress thriving!
